GRADES 5-9
Summer reading is an important part of the St. Luke’s curriculum, and high-quality literature is chosen to support the curriculum and stimulate interest in reading. You are expected to read
two books this summer.
You will read one book in common with your entire class, listed in the left column below, and one you choose from the list on the right. After
reading each book, write a half page personal response to the book. Do not summarize the plot, but refer to specifics to support your comments. Your written responses are due on the first day of school. During the first week of school, you will discuss the required book in your literature class. You will join a book club group with a faculty sponsor during lunch in the first week of school to discuss the book you chose. All books are available in paperback.
